Three Bears Lawn Care charges $100 per hour, and we have a rate of $80 per acre.  Don't be alarmed, the average account in the 2024 was $62 per visit with an average of 2 visits per month, or 2-times per month.  

Factors affecting pricing and cost of lawn care service

• Lawn Size:  If the lawn is a flat and simple, the time won't be much of a factor and the zero-turn mower should handle the bulk of the tasks.  If you're looking at various gradients, hills, trees, landscaping, and other obstructions, time will play a factor in completing of the project.  
• Services:  Another factor will include the level of service.  Does the service require weed control with the string trimmers, does it require bagging clippings, lawn aeration, overseeing, applying lawn fertilizer, and other tasks that could impact the overall cost of the project.  
• Frequency:  This does play a larger factor than most.  If it's a weekly service account, we have to look at factors such as drive time, distance, other accounts in the area will also play a factor with our scheduling.  
• Location:  Yes, we do try to keep the bulk of our accounts in the same location.  However, that doesn't mean we won't take care of you.  If you're in Rice Lake, Wisconsin - we'll do our very best to make this an affordable option, but also want to make sure we're being considerate of our other customers.  So, location will play a role in the pricing.

Three Bears Lawn Care charges $80 per acre, and in some cases we'll negotiate a better deal based on the needs, services requested, frequency, location, and if you have a couple of referrals up your pocket.  We're in the business of helping you buy your time back so you can enjoy your lawn, and if we can help you achieve that with the best bang for your buck, we'll do our best to meet you in the middle. 

How often should mowing be done?

In the Hayward area, if you're not running any type of irrigation system, sprinkler system or watering your lawn regularly, you'll be just fine with every 14 days.  Some of the Hayward lakes areas do have dry and patchy areas due to the pine needles, leaves, acorns, and pinecones falling in the fall.  If this is the case, we'll look at a 1x per month service to ensure that you're getting your property well maintained to keep the mosquitos, wood ticks and snakes away.  If you're running a watering system, we want to look at a weekly service to ensure that you're  keeping your grass plush, green and healthy.

What is the most common mistake seen when treating lawns?

Some of the most common mistakes homeowners and property owners make:

• Using the wrong fertilizer:  We like to start with a slow-release fertilizer to ensure that your soil can take the proper nutrients with the lower levels of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.  Utilizing the wrong fertilizer can lead to nutrient imbalances and may be harmful for your lawn.  Read the label and find a good balanced formula to ensure that your lawn is getting what it needs.  Think of the ratio is Up (nitrogen), Down (phosphorus), and Around (potassium).  
• Mowing to short:  While it is a common request, we try not to mow the grass to short.  We follow the 1/3 rule and if we're on a 14-day frequency plan, we can always trim just a bit shorter on the next service.  If you mow too short on your first mow, you can risk drying out the grass too quickly, and it will become vulnerable to weeds and pests.  
• Not Aerating:  Over time, especially with busy lawns that see vehicles, foot traffic, and simply drier soil, the soil can compact and restrict air flow, water absorption and nutrient uptake.  Aeration is the process of removing plugs of soil from the lawn to improve air flow, water absorption and nutrient uptake while reducing soil compaction.  Aeration promotions healthy root growth.  
• Mowing with dull blades:  This is more common than you might think.  We change and/or sharpen our blades regularly to ensure that we're getting a smooth, even cut with each mow.  Dull blades tend to pull and tear your grass instead of cutting it, making it susceptible to disease and pests.  
• Scalping your lawn:  While scalping has its place in restoring healthy lawns, the accidental scalp happens from time to time when forgetting to adjust your mower deck to the correct height.
